This Cookie Policy explains how TakeawaysNearMe.ie uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy. We are committed to using cookies transparently and only where justified.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites function correctly, to remember your preferences, and to provide website operators with information about how their site is used.
Cookies can be session cookies (deleted automatically when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (which remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them). They can also be first-party (set directly by TakeawaysNearMe.ie) or third-party (set by external services we use).
In Ireland, the use of cookies is governed by:
The Data Protection Commission (DPC) is the Irish supervisory authority responsible for enforcement of both the ePrivacy Regulations and the GDPR in Ireland.
Under the Irish ePrivacy Regulations, two categories of cookies are exempt from the consent requirement (Regulation 5(5)):
All other cookies require your prior, freely given, informed, and unambiguous consent before they are placed on your device. Pre-ticked boxes and implied consent through browsing are not sufficient under Irish law. The DPC recommends that cookie consent be renewed at least every 6 months.
TakeawaysNearMe.ie sets a minimal number of strictly necessary, first-party cookies. We do not set advertising cookies, behavioural tracking cookies, or analytics cookies.
| Cookie Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Consent Required? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
sb-*-auth-token | Strictly necessary | Supabase authentication session token — keeps you securely logged in to your account | Up to 7 days | No — exempt under Regulation 5(5)(b) of S.I. 336/2011 |
sb-*-auth-token-code-verifier | Strictly necessary | PKCE code verifier used as part of a secure OAuth 2.0 authentication flow to prevent token interception | Session (deleted on browser close) | No — exempt under Regulation 5(5)(b) of S.I. 336/2011 |
These cookies are set only if you create an account and log in. If you use TakeawaysNearMe.ie without logging in, no first-party cookies are set by our website.
These cookies do not track your browsing behaviour across other websites, serve advertisements, or collect personal data beyond what is necessary for the login function.
Some pages on TakeawaysNearMe.ie embed content or services from third parties, which may set their own cookies on your device. We do not control these cookies and they are subject to the respective third party's own cookie policies.
| Service | Cookie Category | Purpose | Consent Required? | Cookie Policy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Maps | Functional / Non-essential | Interactive maps displayed on outlet detail pages and the “Near Me” proximity feature; Google may use cookies to improve map performance and, where permitted, for usage measurement | Yes — see Section 5 | Google Cookie Policy |
We do not currently use any analytics platforms (such as Google Analytics, Plausible, or similar) that would set additional cookies. If this changes, we will update this policy and implement an appropriate consent mechanism before any such cookies are set.
Google Maps is embedded on individual outlet detail pages and powers the “Near Me” feature. When a Google Maps embed loads, Google may set cookies on your device that fall outside the strict necessity exemption under Regulation 5(5) of the Irish ePrivacy Regulations. These are therefore non-essential cookies for which your prior consent is required under Irish law.
We use Cookiebot as our consent management platform. When you first visit TakeawaysNearMe.ie, a cookie consent banner is displayed. Google Maps and any other non-essential cookies are blocked until you give your consent. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by clicking the cookie icon or visiting your cookie preferences.
You may also manage Google's cookies through your browser settings or via Google's Cookie Policy and Google's Ads Settings.
You have the right to control cookies on your device. You can manage cookies in the following ways:
Most modern browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies. Please note that blocking or deleting strictly necessary cookies (such as our authentication cookies) will prevent you from logging in to your TakeawaysNearMe.ie account. Browser instructions:
To manage cookies set by Google Maps or other Google services, you can use:
In line with DPC guidance, Cookiebot is configured to renew your cookie consent every 6 months. You can also update your preferences at any time via the cookie consent banner.
We will update this Cookie Policy if we introduce new cookies, change our cookie practices, or if there are relevant changes in applicable law. We will provide appropriate notice of material changes before they take effect. Any new non-essential cookies will only be set after we have implemented an appropriate consent mechanism and obtained your prior consent.
